Do you want 1st person enforced on our server?
1st person lock ?
Some like it, other's don't and the rest doesn't care.
As our current config stands now:
Name tags: On (See other player's name)
Waypoints: On (Shift-click on map to set waypoints)
3rd person: On (3rd person view)
Crosshairs: Off (Aiming down your sights)
Tracers: Off (Seeing other people on map)
I am personally definatly in favor of 1st person lock, and I believe it works well with the crosshairs, making it harder but more realistic.
It also flows well with the nametags on, as people no longer can look over walls/seeing nametags unless their character actually sees them.
But hey, that's just me.
What do you guys think?

Re: 1st person lock ?
I think having nametags on or off is much more game changing than 3rd person/ first person.
With nametags we can identify each other easier, making it easier to shoot down hostiles. If nametags were on, a lot of deaths would have been prevented.
But it also has a lot of downsides. Even with crosshairs off, people can still just scan the horizon for nametags. and at night time it makes finding people easy even without night vision goggles.
So we're going to have to really make use of cover.
When running through the forest, we're going to have to try to zig zag behind trees to prevent people from scanning through the forest and seeing our nametags.

Re: 1st person lock ?
locking 1st person could actually limit the usefulness of the nametag which balance out the gameplay.

Re: 1st person lock ?
I'm all up for hardcore mode even, it will provide a new dimension of difficulty and thats something this game could use.
Hardcore mode would have all options off.
Food, drinks and painkillers play a much more important role, since you dont know when your getting thirsty or hungry, and due the 1st lock painkillers are required to schoot properly.
Teams/squads would have to make certain stops to check their location on the map, since there are no waypoints, making the scout role much more challenging and interesting.
The use of alt would come much more into play, giving a more realistic experience overall.
disorientation and friendly fire will be harder, but thats a issue we gonna have to solve on our side anyway, cause we have decided to turn nametags off after all.
This is because they are just plain ridiculous, you can see people 300 meters away trough multiple buildings, even in 3rd person.
I think for now the config that everyone prefers most is everything off except 3rd person and the hud, making it similiar to us 303 except for the waypoints and crosshairs, giving us the most realistic play while still adhering to the majority of the wishes.

Making it like 303 would probably be best.

If you are tailoring the server to new players, I highly suggest keeping it off. It may not be AS realistic, but it is a game, and to be honest, I think 1st person actually limits your view, and is much less than a normal human sees in real life.

Re: 1st person lock ?
Agree with Doc.
I'm having a hard time without nametags though. It's *very* unrealistic imo. When we are with a group in real life, we always know who is who - whether it be by height, the posture, the way the person walks, etc. (not to mention the face). Them on the game we can meet someone, be face to face, and have no clue who that is. Sucks a bit.
But I understand it's due to Arma limitations. If the other option is having tags that can be spotted 500m away in the middle of the woods... that's even worse

Re: 1st person lock ?
I cast my vote for 1st person lock, I shouldn't be able to see over and around obstacles without climbing or cornering them, just an opinion.
3rd person makes the game easier, I think that's why it appeals to the majority, but then again, I am a realism masochist when it comes to games, if I had it my way, broken legs would require casts and you would vomit after eating 5 straight cans of sardines in a 30 second sitting.
Beans anyone?
If it does ending up swinging first person, I'm including a link below to edit your field of view to make it more like a normal human sees in real life.

Either way, DayZ is so badass, I could have actually put my vote into "Don't care". Anyhow, enough forum trolling, let's go raid something!

I voted no, admittedly because I am rather new, and 3rd person helps a lot.

Re: 1st person lock ?
3rd person is horrible, I hate it. It gives you SUCH a huge advantage. If you can play first person and pull it off, you would be a much better player than someone that only plays 3rd person all day. It requires more strategy and coordination and knowledge.
In my opinion, 3rd person is for pussies - doesn't matter if you're new. I'm new to the game, probably one of the newest here.

I wouldn't set it that high, 90 is about the max you should go because any higher and you will probably get sick, and the fact that it makes things in front of you farther away.
The best solution is just to get 3 monitors and set up a 3-monitor setup.

Re: 1st person lock ?
I would need 4 monitors for that
Nha i have been playing with 96-98 (depending on the game, would most likely go for 96 in dayz) for quite a while =)
Been playing in some SemiPro ladders and it have worked out quite well =)

Depends on the game, really. Games such as Skyrim cause a fish eye lens effect when too high.

I totally agree. Rather use a low FOV and ALT-scan constantly than a high FOV that turns what should be huge objects in front of me into mere pixels. I don't see much use of peripheral vision if all you see is tiny.
I could understand it in other games which are really fast paced and in which engagements are at very close quarters. But on Arma (thus also DayZ) engagements are often at gun's limit range and it's slow paced enough for alt to be your friend.

Re: 1st person lock ?
My main monitor is a 32" so it wont be too tiny =)
